Due to the anticipated great numbers of schools, organizations and individuals that may be participating, it is impossible to publish all of the participants individually in the Guinness Book (should CAHPERD break the record). However, individuals, schools and organizations will be recognized publically for their participation in/on:
• CAHPERD Website
• AHA Website
• CAHPERD Event Materials
• Media Releases/Press Kits
• CAHPERD Journal (Magazine)
• CAHPERD Conference Program
• Signage at the CAHPERD Conference

QUESTION

We would love to participate but cannot conduct the event on February 1st at 9:00 AM. Is there any alternative?

ANSWER

top

Unfortunately, no. All participants have to jump rope on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 9:00 AM, to be included within the Record.

QUESTION

We would love to participate, and can hold the event on Monday, February 1st at 9:00 AM, but we cannot do the fundraising at that time. Can we still participate?

ANSWER

top

To qualify for the attempt in 2010, everyone needs to jump on Monday, February 1st at 9:00 AM and please donate at least $1 per participant to the AHA (to be independently tracked). A couple of alternatives may be considered:

  • Conduct any fund raising activities earlier in the school year, and then implement the jumping event on February 1, 2010.

  • Work with CAHPERD to secure a Service Club or other sponsor that will underwrite the $1 per participant donation, jump ropes, etc.

  • Engage the school PTA, etc., to underwrite the $1 per participant donations.

QUESTION

My Principal/Boss doesn’t want us fundraising, and frowns on programs like Jump Rope for Heart. How can I convince them to “Jump on Board”?

ANSWER

top

Remind your Principal/Administrator/Boss:

  • Fundraising is a very small part of this program (supporting community service while tracking Record Attempt numbers participation).

  • All funds raised from this program provide valuable resources to address heart disease treatment and prevention – CAHPERD is requesting that the funding raised through this program be directed towards programs specifically addressing heart disease treatment and research for children and youth.

  • CAHPERD’s goal through this event is to remind all community members of the health and wellness benefits of physical activity such as Jumping Rope.

  • Jumping Rope can be done at virtually any age and ability level.

  • Jumping Rope is an inexpensive fitness activity.

  • Instruction on skipping tips and how-to teach skipping techniques is available on www.cahperd.org.

  • Jumping Rope is an important aspect and opportunity to meet California’s required Physical Education Standards: http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/.

  • According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) physical activity and physical fitness is our most important tool in fighting childhood obesity.

QUESTION

I’m concerned about uploading our participant information to the Governor’s Council. What about Privacy Issues? What if we are not allowed to post student’s contact information?

ANSWER

top of page

The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports is a non-profit, non-partisan organization; and they treat issues of confidentiality and privacy with great care.  They NEVER release student or participant information for any reason.

The only reason the Governor’s Council asks for student or participant rosters is to make it easier for school coordinators to administer the Governor’s Challenge at their school sites.  The information that is submitted by school coordinators is only seen by school coordinators themselves and the Governor’s Council staff for confirmation and tracking.

The information we ask for is first and last name, grade level and (optional) teacher name.  In lieu of first and last name coordinators may submit any other information they could use to identify their students such as student number, or first name and last initial.

Schools, school districts and County offices of Education all over the state have vetted the Governor’s Challenge.  In addition to being supported by CAHPERD, they are also supported by the California Teachers Association, the California State PTA, and every other major educational association in the state.  Over the last three years, over 500,000 students from over 1,000 schools have participated in the Governor’s Challenge; and they have not had one single issue around confidentiality or privacy.

Here is a link to their privacy policy which is posted on their website: http://www.calgovcouncil.org/privacy_policy/.

QUESTION

We are adults and want to participate in the Record Attempt. How do we sign-up for the “Governor’s Challenge” if we are not school children?

ANSWER

top

Parents, teachers, officials and any Californian of any age can and should participate in this World’s Record Attempt! We want our children to see that people of all ages should be active and healthy!

If you are an adult, it is still easy to be counted as an official participant of this record-attempt. Just like the participating students, you must sign-up to be a Governor’s Challenge participant to be included. All you have to do is adopt a school for which you will do the Governor’s Challenge. Pick a school from any of the thousands in California; register under that school’s name as a Governor’s Challenge participant, track your hours of physical activity, and help us break the World’s Record! For more information, please check the website: http://www.calgovcouncil.org/challenge/.
