Description & Mission

The purpose of the Early Childhood/Elementary Section is to:
Mission • Promote quality programs of physical education in the elementary schools of California through:
    1. Providing communication between consultants, elementary school teachers, elementary school physical education specialists, other administrative offices and teacher preparation personnel.
    2. Providing effective assistance to the classroom teacher:
      a. Directly at the local level by providing in-service education, summer workshops, curriculum materials and consultant services.
      b. Indirectly through administrative and teacher associations by encouraging and conducting sessions of physical education at meetings or conferences.
    3. Contributing articles about elementary school physical education to professional and popular magazines or other news media.
    4. Assisting in publication of professional opportunities available to those who are prepared to teach physical education at the elementary school level.
    5. Providing statewide leadership in elementary school physical education.
    6. Conducting the annual elementary school physical education conference in conjunction with the State Conference.
